The Problem

The project innovation purposely support inclusive education on its struggle to fully cater to learners with Special Educational Needs (LSEN) to fully benefit from the general classroom environment.

The Context

Fairview Elementary School is located in between the slopes of Quezon Hill and Guisad Valley, where almost all its learners are residents surrounding the school.

Fairview Barangay, having to be populated by various Filipino Natives from different provincial origins including Baguio contributes to the general populace of the City.

Every household contributes to the ever-growing school population that cannot be sorted-out having to be an advocate of the “No Child Left Behind” policy were learners are welcome whatever secrets are hidden behind their smiles.

The Solution

The innovation’s purpose is to reach out to Learners with Special Educational Needs through the school’s general inclusion, windowing the Services of a Resource Room.

Learners with Special Educational Needs will spend a portion of their school day in the general education classrooms but will receive targeted support in a resource room.

This will temporarily be served by the school’s under-utilized ICT room. Along with this would be the establishment of partnerships with colleges and universities offering Teacher Education majoring in SPED.

This would provide field immersion and teaching practice. Another would be the involvement of the SK having to be a youth program for the Barangay.

All possible invites including skills development are welcome to develop the learner holistically.

Challenges

Establishing involvement of colleges and universities likewise the SK; (Entering through partnerships)

Temporary room to be used for self-contained learning; (Use of the ICT room for the time being)

How to establish the resource room and how to source-out materials to enclose the resource room; (SNED Funds and maybe thru fund raising thru creative works of learners and stakeholders directly involved in the project)

How to avail for a permanently stationed Special Education Teacher: (Requesting for Plantilla position for SPET)

Needed Resources

Sustainability of Partners thru:

  • Partnerships with Colleges and Universities on Pres-service Teachers Practice Teaching and Field Immersion.
  • SK Participation
  • The completion of the resource room together with its amenities but;
  • Sustainability of fundings for the provisions of Learner Assessments that is currently provided by DepEd through the SNED Support Funds.
  • Provisions of a permanently stationed Special Education Teacher (Targeted portion of the Final Phase of the project)

Source:

  • Establishment of partnerships with colleges and universities offering Teacher Education-major in SPED;
  • Partnership and participation of the Sanguniang Kabataan and all other volunteers like parents who wish to be part of the program;
  • Support from Project LIPAT-Dunong of Baguio SPED Center for teachers; Request for permanent deployment of Sped Teacher
  • Sustainability of fundings for the provisions of Learner Assessments that is currently provided by DepEd through the SNED Support Funds.
  • Portion of Excess Materials from salvaged materials from the Barangay;

Monitoring & Evaluation

To monitor the innovation requires feedbacks of progress of the LSENs coming from both the regular teachers and the Practice teachers majoring in SPED, SK Volunteers and others. These feedbacks should be supported by feedbacks from parents or family of the LSENs.
