The Problem

This project addresses the challenges of increased drop-out rates (with 5 cases last year) and low academic performance among 58 learners. It aims to enhance reading skills, transitioning students from frustration to instructional levels, particularly in grades 3 to 6.

For grades 1 and 2, the project focuses on helping struggling readers meet their grade-level standards. This initiative will significantly improve the learning conditions of 58 underprivileged learners at Dominican-Mirador Elementary School.

The Context

Our target learners are those who are learners at-risk-of dropping-out; learners who are struggling in learning and learners who lack educational support.

They  are also the learners  who belong to below-average living status; whose parents are disintegrated; learners who are being cared by their grandparents and other relatives; learners  who are suffering educationally, emotionally, physically and socially.

Their  educational  performance are low, many cannot read, and most are bullies due to these scenarios and situations.

The Solution

1. Enlist Guardian Angels (GA), stakeholders, school staff who will serve as Education Fostering Sponsors.

(These GA are willing to allot at least 30 minutes to 1 hour of their time once or twice a week to help the learner they are sponsoring with their educational backlog such as reading and numeracy. They will also serve as parents during socialization time.

Give parental support and care to the learners. They can also give  educational supplies, food and clothing as part of being their fostering role.)

2. An orientation/ training of GA will be conducted before the start of the program.

3. The foster sponsors will have to meet the parents with the adviser and the school principal. Rules, restrictions and regulations will be discussed during the conference.

4. Implementation of activities, all activities will be done with the school’s control and guidance.

Challenges

  1. The sustainability of this project.
  2. Teachers and stakeholders’ commitment.
  3. Resources and time.

Needed Resources

  1. EdTech materials and tools for recording
  2. Human resources : teachers, stakeholders as Education Foster Sponsors, record keepers
  3. Bond papers and other printing supplies.

Monitoring & Evaluation

The proponent will monitor the conduct of this activity every week with the self-constructed M&E tool and other tools prescribed by DepEd.

The PSDS can also monitor the implementation of the project.
